So the flight to HK is 14.5 hours. That is longer than an entire season of the office, longer than attending an entire women's gymnastics meet (haven't done that since freshman year), and longer than driving to Arizona (with a lot less scenery). Not only is it a long flight but usually your body is all messed because HK is 15 hours ahead of LA. To minimize my disruption I partook of lots of CocaCola. With my "Last Supper" (Doublecheeseburger meal at McDonalds and Six-piece ChickenMcNuggets) I had a descent sized coke and then I had another one on the flight with the meal (not great, don't remember, but the cheesecake dessert was nice). All this Coke kept me up until 6am LA time or 9pm HK time. Then I slept 8 of the next 9 hours (with a couple of laps around the plane and a visit to the food/beverage area, the fresh fruit and juices were excellent) and finally awoke with only 1.5 hours left. The flight was cake, easily my best of 5 efforts crossing the pacific. A great help was the fact that I had a window seat and the one next to me empty. That moves on to my next topic: Numbers!
199 of 268: seats occupied in coach class
19 of 68: seats occupied in business class
2 of 18: seats occupied in 1s class
One of the benefits of a mid-week, 2am departure is that you have a much greater chance of a less than full plane. Thank you people who didn't come or couldn't stay up past the 11:50 departure!
7255: miles from LAX to HK
On this trip I am going to cover lots of ground. In order my cities will be LA, HK, Manila, HK, Tokyo, Hiroshima, Osaka, Kuala Lampur, Singapore, HK, Bangkok, Phuket, HK, Ho Chih Minh City, Siem Reap and Phnom Penh (both in Cambodia), HK, Colombo, Chennai and New Delhi (both in India), Colombo, HK, and then back to LA.
Here's is my challenge: everyone guess how many total miles I will cover in the trip!!!!! Please submit your entries as a comment on this post and I will have a big surprise to the person who gets closest...think Office "Health Care" episode. If you want to get rediculously detailed, break it out by foot, plane, automobile, boat, etc. Only the total figure will determine the winner.
6: number of office episodes or entire 1st season watched. Big shout out from Phillipines to friends Ian, Diane, and Fernando who made this possible.
55: Weight of all my luggage. Clothes weren't the problem. My ancient laptop, other electonics, and reading material added to the total much more than expected. The other picture is me leaving home fully-loaded.
1: Hot flight attendent who started picking up on my in the HK Airport when she learned that I could speak Cantonese. No Ian, I do not have yellow fever and I let her walk away.
